Memory about Frank Gehry
I had an opportunity to study with Frank Gehry when I was in graduate school. I had a construction class at his studio where they showed us detailed photos about how they built the very complex projects they had done to date. It was fascinating. This article published on COMMON EDGE talks about another exposure I had where he advised on a studio, taught by Richard Wienstein, that was about collaborating with artists, something Gehry was passionate about. You can read my story from there in the article, including my recounting of working with a personal friend in this studio. I wish I had a photo of the project we designed. I am lucky to have had meaningful exposure to a legend like Frank Gehry. He left a real mark on our field. The article was written a few days after his passing.
