Sanctuary: The Documentary Film

We are honored to have our Sanctuary project featured in a documentary film, entitled Sanctuary. The film follows the creation of Sanctuary 2024 as a central storyline in a larger exploration of the LGBTQ+ experience in religion. The film premiered in October 2025 at the Soho Film Festival in New York City. Here is the filmmakers’ description:

Directed by Autumn McAlpin and Vienna Boyes, SANCTUARY is a feature-length documentary that exposes the plight of LGBTQIA+ individuals within modern faith systems—told through the eyes of a visionary architect whose passion project becomes a lifeline. As doctrine collides with identity, a sacred space rises from rejection, offering refuge and hope. Alongside his journey, scholars and spiritual leaders from a variety of religious traditions share how they are transforming their institutions to welcome the marginalized and reimagine what it means to belong.

The film is currently in a national screening tour. Check our Instagram for current screening opportunities.
